Bad info

I do not usually write reviews, but in the 40 years I have been making photographs, I have read some good books on photography and some bad ones. This book ranks with the worst. Full of misinformation about the most basic technical aspects of photography. (While F/stop is related to the focal length of the lens, it is not THE focal length of the lens. F/stop and aperture are two words describing the same thing.) The book comes across as being written by someone who has some experience with a point and shoot but little real understanding of the relationship between aperture/fstop, shutter speed and ISO, let alone depth of field, angle of view or any real lighting insight. Most of the example photos are scrapbook snap shots that should have been left in the scrap book. It's not my intention to be mean, but an author should have some mastery of her topic and it appears that is not the case with this book. Additionally, nearly half the book is an index to other resources. In a nutshell, save your money! I have requested a refund.

A NON SCARY INTRO TO THE BUSINESS OF STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY

I find this book to be approachable and very easily applied.
It covers a good amount of terrain without scaring off any questioning photographer interested in selling their pics.
At the same time it tells it like it is and shows how you really must learn to be a good judge of your work and its qualities.
The language is accessible and not one piece of jargon aft an other only really understood but the photog in the field for decades and wreaking of knowledge and as a beginning pro I am grateful for that.
Their is information about which agencies to use and how to approach that move and more on the process of preparing good work.

Some good lists but additional submission details would be helpful

Some idea of what pitfalls get images rejected would be helpful and useful information as to what income (median) can be expected over a given time period should have been provided.
It does give addresses (URL) which enabled me to go to sites and read their submission requirements.
The book does provide some help in getting started for beginners but it doesn't go far enough.
