It is a classic mystery that my students love. They beg me not to stop reading as the plot builds. One of my students loved the book so much that he went on to read 12 more of his books and chose Bill Wallace as his research author study. I bought several books to replace some of my worn out copies.

As a teacher, I used this novel with my 6th graders early in the school year. It had lots of adventure, a little suspense, and humor. It was a good starter novel for the year.

Highly recommended!

I tried several books to start learning FEM but was never satisfied. Some of them were overloaded with theory or essentially no theory and all software application. Finally I come across this one! A very good book to learn FEM subject for the person who already has basic knowledge of mechanics, strength of materials and matrix calculus. It's really clearly written with a very good and detailed explanation of discussed topics. All the chapters are followed by numerous examples to be solved by the reader. I was able to deal with them using the equations and examples given in regular text. The book is "software-independent" - it's not oriented towards any specific FEM package; more stress is put on general FEM theory and exemplary applications. There are several handy appendixes which helps you work through matrix calculus, equations of elasticity & solution techniques for linear algebraic eqs. Highly recommended!

This is one of the most difficult textbooks to read that I've ever encountered. I think some of that has to do with the fact that the material is hard to begin with, but even still: The book constantly references equations by number (eq 5.14) and does so dozens of pages removed. That alone is super obnoxious.

Dr. Hutton was my professor for M.E. 474 [Finite Element Analysis] elective counting towards a Masters in Mechanical Engineering. We worked off his notes in 1992 before he got his work published. Brilliant man and no less quality of technical publication.

BIOGRAFIA DE JORGE VELASQUEZ Nacio el 28 de Abril de 1948 en una familia de clase media-pobre en la pequeña población de California, departamento de Usulutan, en la republica de El Salvador. Vivio ali hasta la edad de 6 anos; luego se mudo a la ciudad de Santiago de Maria en donde curso sus estudios de primaria. A los 12 anos se mudo nuevamente a la ciudad de Usulutan, en donde se graduo de la secundaria en el Instituto nacional Usuluteco . . . contaba con apenas 17 anos, pero su inquietud por el estudio lo hizo ingresar a la Universidad autónoma de El Salvador, en San Salvador, donde curso solo 2 anos, pues ganaba una beca para estudiar en el continente Europeo, oportunidad que no quiso perder, para conocer otras culturas. En el viejo continente estuvo 5 anos, donde aprovecho sus vacaciones de verano para ir a trabajar y conocer Francia, Belgica, Alemania, Suecia, Grecia Y Polonia. A su regreso a su país natal, se avecinaba la sangrienta guerra civil que hubo entre militares y fuerzas de izquierda, por esa razón no pudo establecese all y en 1975 decidio emigrar a los EEUU. Llego ilegalmernte a este pais, pero por una ley aprobada por el Ex presidente Ronald Reagan pudo obtener su residencia permanente para pos- teriormente hacerse ciudadano NorteAmericano. Charles Ghigna (also known as Father Goose®) lives in a treehouse in Alabama. He is the author of more than 100 award-winning books for children and adults from Random House, Capstone, Disney, Hyperion, Scholastic, Simon & Schuster, Abrams, Charlesbridge and other publishers. His poems appear in hundreds of magazines from The New Yorker and Harper's to Cricket and Highlights. He is a former poetry editor of the English Journal and nationally syndicated feature writer for Tribune Media Services.

As a freelance illustrator working in Toronto, Laura Watson has been creating whimsical illustrations for children’s books, educational materials, magazines, and various retail applications since graduating from Sheridan College’s Interpretive Illustration program, in Oakville, Ontario, in 1995. Born and raised in the heart of the scenic Kawartha Lakes region in Peterborough, Ontario, Laura also studied Fine Art at York University and graduated with an Honors degree in Visual Arts. In the past few years, Laura has enjoyed illustrating several trade children’s books and countless school publications for subjects as diverse as poetry and math. Laura lives in the east end of Toronto with her husband and five-year-old daughter, and works in a converted backyard garage studio surrounded by a slightly unkempt garden. Springtime brings all kinds of weather. Sometimes that weather includes hail. Join a little kitten and puppy as they explore their world and enjoy the adventure of hail. They encounter all sorts of animals and places as they explore. Puppy and kitten will learn all about hail as they run through the city and countryside.

Bright, colorful illustrations fill each page. Large font, rhyming lyrical words, and simple vocabulary make this a fun to read book for young children. The story is told with the illustrations and tells the reader all of the things that the hail does to make to the world. At the end of the book, the reader will find interesting and fun facts about hail. The publisher has included additional resources online. The website has projects, games, and more that children can access to learn more about the subject. Parents will enjoy the rhythmic reading style and the education the children are learning while having fun. This book would make a great addition to any classroom and could be used for science or story time reading.

A head & shoulder above "An Introduction"

Undoubtedly, this is a great book. The reason I rated four was because this book is much more technical that "An Introduction" to L2 acquisition. I felt some chapters are mainly related to theoretical linguistics than SLA or maybe my expectations were different the title of this book.
I would certainly recommend this book to those who are into applied linguistics an linguistics.

Poor-quality binding and haphazard-seeming layout

The layout of this book is distracting. Theories from linguistics seem poorly characterized and represented. The general tone of narration is unscientific. Perhaps I'm just not enamored of this approach to language acquisition, or to this field (second-language acquisition, ESL pedagogy), in general, so I suppose I shouldn't fault the author, who is eminent in the field. Perhaps it's just esthetics--I think the previous edition of this book is better laid-out and easier to read (typographically speaking). Major complaint is the poor quality of the book binding--the pages near the back of the book have started falling out and I've had to tape them back in, to hold them together. I take *exceptionally* good care of all my books, and I was hoping to sell this back, but the quality of the binding makes that impossible now.

Although I haven't finished reading the whole book, its been a great, informative, and beneficial book for me to read and study for
my TESOL Master's program. It has questions to challenge the reader and from time to time tasks to do. I would recommend to
any linguistic student or anyone preparing to become a TESOL/ESL instructor in the future.

About the Author
Daniel J. Licht, MD is a child neurologist with expertise in critical care neurology, stroke, and noninvasive imaging. Dr. Licht started his career as a synthetic organic chemist after completing his bachelor’s degree in biochemistry at NYU in 1984. He graduated from New Jersey Medical School (UMDNJ) in 1997 and began his second (and final) career as a pediatric resident at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, following into a neurology residency at the University of Pennsylvania.
 
Nicole R. Ryan, MD is a child neurologist and epileptologist at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. After completing a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Cornell University, she entered the Albert Einstein School of Medicine where she discovered her passion for neurology.  She completed her residency training at the Perelman School of Medicine and has stayed on at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia as the Section Head of Community Neurology and member of the Pediatric Regional Epilepsy Program.

Great Textbook

This is a great book to teach about battles and about the choices of commanders- I find it great as a student, easy to read, with enough visual resources to make it easy to understand. As a future teacher as well, it's going to be a great resource, and I'm definitely going to keep it. Great for military enthusiasts!

A Good over view.

This book was required for an American Military history class I took. It covered a wider variety of materials and I have to say that it was a great way for me to be able to branch out and find specific things I wish to study from there. A truly great buy.

The evolution of western warfare

Doughty's book covers exactly what it says. It provides a good overview of American military history beginning basically with the colonists' battles with Native Americans. This book really shines in its discussion of the technology behind warfare and how it affected key battles. For example, its sections on the technology of World War I (machine gun, plane and tank) are carried through when discussing World War II. I felt the authors did a good job of trying to create a logical flow of progression. Though I'm not sure if killing more people faster is "progress" but I digress.

There are also smaller sections on important military commanders. The authors also have no problem calling a spade a spade and telling the reader who did a bad job. And based on the Civil War section lots of people did lots of bad jobs.

There are, obviously, more in-depth studies of all the military actions and technology discussed in the book. But the importance of the book is to tie all of these facets together and create a larger view of American military history. Overall, the book did a good job creating a sense of evolution of western warfare.
