Esta historia es una de las más hermosas y emotivas que leí en mi vida.
Que difícil resulta expresar con palabras cuando una historia te hace sentir… TANTO… Tanto amor, tanto dolor, tanta ternura, tanta desesperación, tanto… de TODO.
La historia es tan real, tan desgarradora y los sentimientos tan profundos, que te hace agradecer y pedir no estar nunca en una situación similar. Pero está tan bien contada, que a pesar de ser dolorosa, no resulta un golpe bajo para el que la lee.
Sara y Víctor son personajes entrañables y conmovedores. A Sara, en muchos momentos, quise abrazarla fuerte, y decirle que todo iba a estar bien. Sufrí por ella y rogué que encuentre una luz de esperanza que le permita seguir…
Víctor es…TODO. A pesar de estar tan roto como Sara lo dio todo de sí mismo para volver a empezar, no de cero, como él bien dice, sino desde donde sea, pero junto a ella. ¡Se robó completamente mi corazón! Me conmovió absolutamente su amor incondicional y su infinita paciencia y ternura para con Sara.
La pluma de Alice es IMPECABLE, y transmite, a la perfección, todas las emociones que experimentan sus personajes.
¡Amé este libro de principio a fin, amé la historia y amé a los personajes!
Aún tengo el corazón en un puño y las emociones a flor de piel.

Cuando el amor da otra oportunidad

No tengo demasiadas palabras para poder explicarme sobre todo lo que me hizo sentir este relato tan intenso.
No entender el por qué de las decisión que toma Sara y "ver" a Víctor que lo acepta casi sin luchar por el amor que sienten. Pero......
No pude dejar de leer hasta saber ese por qué. Y ahí todas las piezas se hicieron una. De otra manera, de otra forma, pero intentarán y eso es lo que cuenta.
Dejar sólo una frase, es muy mezquino de mi parte, pero elegí una, de tantas que señale en mi kindle: "No sé que nos deparará el futuro, no sé si mi vida tiene algún sentido o si me equivoqué en algún momento y no fui capaz de ver las señales y entenderlas correctamente..."

Que sentí en cada palabra lo que tus personajes iban viviendo.

Y lloré... lloré al sentir ese amor tan grande y al comprender qué era aquello tan grande que los separaba.
Es una historia real, como la vida misma...

When the Chasens move into a haunted house in the San Jacinto Mountains in Southern California, the ghost of the house’s former occupant appears to Mica and asks for his help. The ghost is Ethan Samuels, who died approximately 100 years ago in the very house Micah lives in, in present day 2013, and the 11-year old precocious Micah is compelled to help the ghost. Acting as a ‘ghostwriter’ Micah simultaneously writes up a social studies report for school and documents the details surrounding Ethan’s death. In his quest to help his only ghostly friend, Micah becomes involved in current town affairs and will attempt to get to the bottom of what really happened all those years ago.

Tyan Wyss is a writer who doesn’t leave any checks unmarked in the lengthy list of novel requirements. Her story is robust. The characters are well-written and vibrant, coming alive through the story. Her descriptions are just enough to give the reader the complete picture while still leaving some parts to the imagination. The pacing is perfect. And then the ending… Wyss has a way with the climax of the story and with giving a well-rounded ending. This book in particular was so heartfelt and connected with me emotionally that I got a bit teary eyed. I was so caught up in the story that I felt the emotions coming through the story.

Ghostwriter reminds me of Holes, in that it seamlessly intertwines two stories into one novel, the story of how Ethan died and the story of how Micah helps Ethan discover his past and move forward with his death. Not all authors can work two stories together well, but Wyss is phenomenal with this aspect of the story. She would probably be a great mystery writer because she is able to mingle the stories in such a way that pieces start to fall into place, grabbing and hooking the reader with each new part of the puzzle. She also delivers a killer ending that makes sense according to the previous elements while still being not completely predictable.

Wyss also touches upon subjects like moving to a new town, being bullied, being alone, making friends, grieving for lost loved ones, and other situations that affect young teens in an expert manner that is so subtle it just blends right into the story without intruding into the main action, but rounds out the novel.

I was too involved in the story to take many notes of my reactions to elements of the story or highlight favorite passages, it was just too good to put down, even for a moment.

This story would appeal to the underdogs, those who like a well-written historical fiction mashup like Holes by Louis Sachar, or a mesmerizing YA book about a precocious boy and a ghost.

Entertaining for all ages…

“Ghostwriter” by Tyan Wyss is a fanciful tale about Micah Chasen, an 11-year-old boy, and his quest to fill in the missing pieces of Ethan Samuels’ life story. Ethan is a ghost with haunting questions about how he reached ghost status. Over 100 years ago, while still a young man, Ethan tumbled down a flight of stairs in the Chasen residence, breaking his neck, and his spirit has been captive in the home ever since. Unafraid of Ethan’s ghost, Micah befriends him and takes on the challenge of helping uncover the mystery surrounding his death, documenting the story for a social studies project.

The tale bounces back and forth between the present and 1909, a time when Ethan was working as a young hired hand at a lodge which is now the Chasens’ home. Ethan becomes captivated by Petané, a young Indian girl also working at the lodge. Ethan meets his untimely death shortly after proposing. Adding to the intrigue, Ethan had recently discovered a vein of gold in the nearby mountains and was looking forward to sharing his life and soon-to-be fortune with Petané.

Savanah Bishop (Vanna), a classmate of Micah’s, joins him to assist in researching Ethan’s past. It helps that Vanna is the great- granddaughter of Petané. The two sixth graders dig through family memorabilia and local history books as they begin to piece together Ethan’s past. The relationship of the young students parallels that of Ethan and Petané, facing bullies, prejudice, and uncertainty.

The tale is written for young readers, with the dialogue, situations, and topics primarily targeting pre-teens, but I found the characters and storyline entertaining and applicable to a much broader audience. Frequently, the story required my complete attention to ensure I absorbed the significance of the author’s messages. The author has an artful imagination. Elements of whimsy, mystery, romance, and drama are sprinkled throughout the story and masterfully brought together in an unpredictable conclusion. And isn’t that what readers want, both young and old?

Couldn't put it down

Once in a blue moon a book comes around that truly takes me out of the comfort zone that makes up my regular choice of reading material and makes me so glad that I read it. Ghostwriter is one of those gems. It is the perfect blend of paranormal, western, period piece and love story.
It is the kind of story that you give to the young adult in your life and can rest assured they are reading a quality book that will make reading such a rewarding experience. The characters are well constructed and highly thought out. I loved how Ethan struggles to makes sense of the modern world he was existing in while Micah assumed the role of the more sensible of the strange pairing. The dynamic between a young boy and a ghost that haunts his home could have gone so many ways. Taryn Wyss chose the right approach and made me fall in love with them both.
Great book all around.

A very fun retelling of the Psyche/Cupid myth!

My Opinion: I received a copy of this book free of charge through NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

This is my first experience with the Myth-O-Mania series of books and I have to say that I absolutely loved it! Since each book tackles a different myth, you don't have to read them in order to be able to follow what's happening, which is good for me because I plan on going back and reading them from the beginning, that's how much fun I had reading Nice Shot, Cupid!

This book tells the"true" story of Cupid and Psyche according to Hades, God of the Underworld, because, as he puts it, "When it comes to myths, you can count on me, Hades, to give you the real deal." I have to admit that Hades has always been my favorite god because he's so dark and mysterious, dealing with the dead all the time, etc. Imagine my surprise when I found out that he has a wicked sense of humor and a great deal of love for his family, and mortals who may need his help. The humor in this book is tailored to the MG age group, i.e. "Yo, Hades!" Cupid said. "Am I ever glad to see you, man!" ... "Yo, Cupid," I called back to him, wondering what exactly "Yo!" meant. He calls his wife, Persephone, P-Phone, and drives around in a chariot pulled by his steeds, Harley and Davidson!

Hades is also quite the romantic. When Cupid falls in love with Psyche but is too embarrassed to show her what he looks like (because in this series, Cupid is a teenager, covered in zits, with a mouth full of metal and greasy hair), he kidnaps her and takes her to one of Zeus's palaces where he speaks to her from behind a curtain (which she promises never to look behind), and figures that he'll keep her there like that until he gets through this awkward teenage phase he feels stuck in. Hades tries to help Cupid realize that he should be honest with Psyche and trust that she will see past his appearance to the love struck man inside, but unfortunately, Cupid's mother dearest, Aphrodite, shows up and all of Hades work goes to hell in a handbasket!

This was really such a fun book that I would recommend it to all MG readers who love a good laugh and don't mind reading an alternative "truth" to all of our favorite Greek myths :D I give this book a very enthusiastic 5 stars!

This fast-paced, breezy slang-filled version of the Cupid and Psyche myth changes plenty of details, but actually stays fairly true to the basic plot arc of the original myth. First, we get a quick rundown on who all the major players are. The story is narrated by Hades, who in this version, is more of a misunderstood good guy who's been given a bad rap. Cupid is an awkward teenager with pimples and braces, accidentally scratching himself with one of his arrows causing him to fall in love with... himself! He sounds like a surfer, peppering his speech with lots of phrases like, "dude" and "man." His mother, Aphrodite, is a bossy, funny woman prone to speaking in Italian, since she rose fully-grown out of the Italian sea. In the meantime, Psyche has been promised to marriage to Cupid, and is goaded by her sisters Muffy and Buffy into finding out what, exactly, her invisible husband looks like. In doing so, she angers Aphrodite, and must out-perform Hercules' labors to get back in Aphrodite's good graces again. The silliness level in this book is easily amped up to 11, what with Hades calling Psyche by the nickname, "P-phone," and plenty of anachronisms like motorcycle riding, WWF-style wrestling and so on.

This reprint (first published in 2002) is sure to cash in on the Percy Jackson excitement with a lot of young readers. In terms of tone, and reading level, this will appeal to readers who are right on board with goofy humor like Diary of a Wimpy Kid, but may find Percy Jackson just a skoche too challenging at the moment.

metapopulation theory uncovered

I found this text useful in explaining the concepts of metapopulation theory. A general framework of metapopulation models is presented in the first several chapters, beginning with Levin's metapopulation model and subsequent variants. Hanski presents the incidence function model (an approach using the presence/absence of species in habitat patches), his own contribution to the field, in some detail. Most theoretical and mathematical constructions are followed by examples, which is nice. The final section of the book is a case study that was very helpful in understanding the application of theories discussed earlier in the text.

Terrible print quality control, insult to solid content

** I think academically it is a great book. I gave away my copy and was looking to replace it with this one. **

The copy I purchased from worldofbooksusa had large sections where pages were overprinted 2-3 times, with graphs on top of text, sometimes backwards. Much of it can't be read. I hate to review the physical characteristics, but I think this was a massive oversight by the publishers to let this one out of the warehouse in the state I saw. Perhaps a worse error for the reseller.

I bought this book, then I recieved an invitation to review this book, but I can not do it because the book never arrived to my home (of course they took the money out of my credit card). I guess I wil have to buy it somewhere else

Fantastic book - beautiful designs, clear, with a true love of tablet weaving. This is one of the must-have tablet weaving books. I had to re-chart the patterns, but the designs are worth the extra effort.

Excellent book on double faced tablet weaving.

I am already familiar with this technique from Linda Hendrickson's "Please Weave Me A Message," which I love. However, this new book explains everything excellently, and is a good companion book to Linda's. I especially like his explanation of S & Z and how it relates to the cards and the twists and the turning direction. Very good! This is a case where Peter Collingwood actually has the worst description of how double faced tablet weaving works.

Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar.He is honored with “Sardar Patel Award” from Government of Gujarat and “Bharat Jyoti Award” at National level. He has served as Professor and Head, Anand Agricultural University, Anand. Dr. Vora has acquired expertise in Ayurveda from his personal experiences and from his close association with wellknown Ayurvedic physicians and Institutions. Dr. Vora is constantly engaged to address health problems of modern lifestyle and present holistic solutions free from side effects. Dr. Vora has contributed several research papers, gave expert talks on radio and doordarshan and authored three books out of which two happen to be on Ayurveda.

This is perfect for the beginner or as a refresher. This one was a breeze and held my interest throughout, as well as evoked my passion. MOP with Lisp

A nice book with the history of the ideas previous to achieve the MOP concept. In addition, this book teach how implement MOP using Common Lisp, in particular take advantage of macros in Lisp. Now Lisp is a great language again... Clojure under JVM is the last word in computing advances.
