Hot, but too brief

The premise of this short story sounds good: Two best friends in New Orleans for spring break and a week of hot, sweaty sex. One of the two has an encounter in a dark alley; the other, a quickie with a cowboy and then a finale with a quarterback stepbrother.
While the sex scenes were hot and well-described, the stories presented lacked any sort of emotional connection for the reader to identify with the two main characters. Whether this was a result of the brevity of the work, or the author's own lack of deep interest in the characters is anybody's guess, but as a reader I got the feeling this story would have been better suited as a part of a longer story or even as a part of an interwoven collection of short stories.
While the characters may fall a little flat and the writer also misses out on telling the reader a little bit about New Orleans. The story is said to have taken place there, but really, it could have taken place anywhere.
A lot of work goes into producing quality erotica and great cover design, like this book has, doesn't come cheap (if it's hired out), so I don't fault authors who price their work accordingly. For me, however, I would prefer a little more bang for my buck.
I have two other stories by Evan J. Xavier and look forward to reading them both. Like I mentioned, the sex is hot and Xavier has the skill to keep his readers engaged. I plan to check for his new releases to see much he will grow as a writer. I look forward to one of his books earning a permanent place on my digital shelf.

The stories are well pieced together. Multiple characters making the story inviting and leaving you wanting more. Waiting patiently for the next installment.
